I am seeking your help in this regard if anyone has gone through this process. I am planning to go to Nepal this December and return back in January. My passport expires this January and my visa has already expired. It means I need to prepare new passport, attend visa interview and come back. I have a month for all this. In that case, would I be able to complete all processes during that time frame? I could have sent my passport now but since I am travelling back, I need my passport. Hmmmm....I am really confused and seek your help. PS. I am in a H1-B visa at present. Please suggest me. Thanks in advance.

Apply here @ DC before you leave. It is faster; mine took about 3 weeks..Send express mail next day and make sure retrun paid postage is express too....
But you might be OK, doing in Nepa...., if you know somone @ that particular place or know how to do things in Nepal...But sometimes in Nepal things takes longer just because they are out....
The other problem I see is that you need to apply for VISA and you don't want to apply with old passport no, so by the time u have passport, u might close to visa date. Remember, December is busy because of F1 and Parents visting for graduation...
But then embassy in Nepal is helpful in this situation. Email them if you have problem with interview date. On my last visa stamping, i emailed them with my flight itenary, and they moved my interview 8 days earlier.
Hope this helps..

Stupida Bro:
Thanks for your suggestion. I am scared that I might face larger problem if I do not receive my old/new passport before I fly to Nepal. You got lucky as you received yours in 3 weeks but it might not be the same in my case.
On a contrary note, I just realized that the expiry date in Nepali passort is written in DD/MM/YYYY format and not in MM/DD/YYYY format. Hence my passport expiry date is 01/09/2013, which means my passport expires in September 1 and not in 9th of January. In that case, can I stamp my visa in my old passport and come back here and apply for the new one? Please let me know. Thanks.

Few years back before MRP, I guess 09.
But I guess these days you get MRP passport for Nepal as well.
creating a new one takes much longer that to replace a expired one. They will not verify much of the information.

Hi Stupida,
Do we need to send the original old passport only or do I need to send my original citizenship card too?
Where do you guys have your photo taken for 45mm x 35mm size? Can we have that size photo taken in Walgreen or similar stores? How you guys did for yours?
Thanks
