Govt recommends 5 ambassadors

KOL Report

KATHMANDU, April 2 - The government has recommended the names of five possible ambassadors to the respective countries and organisations for appointment. The posts have remained vacant for some time now.
Among the five recommended, three are former Army officers. Former General Krishna Narayan Singh Thapa has been recommended as ambassador to the United Nations, reported Kantipur daily quoting Foreign Ministry sources.

Former Army Generals Victri Rana and Tara Bahadur Thapa have been recommended as ambassadors to Myanmar and Thailand. For Sri Lanka and Egypt, Joint-Secretaries Durga Prasad Bhattarai and Ram Bhakta PPB Thakur have been recommended.

The Kantipur report also said that the government was considering appointing former Army chief, Prajwal Shumsher Rana, as the envoy to Paris but had not recommended his name to France yet. (dds/yv)

Now I am really concerned whether Nepal is undergoing scarcity of diplomats. What message does King G want to send to world community appoining ex general of army as UN ambassador??

There are many Gorkhalis who will say Nepal should be ruled by king G as an absolute king with his RNA - active in service or retired. This is the goal of king G to show his power with RNA to the international communities and the scare the shit out of Nepali people who oppose his rule.

What can you do? king G has the full support of Gorkhalis. People like you and me who see there is something wrong with and oppose like the international communities will be disregarded. You go back to Panchayet dictatorship and Rana oligarcky.

Due to the gorkhaliness in many among us Nepalis there is a little hope for rational and logistic democratic thinking that stands for the restoration of Democracy and fundamental rights of people of Nepal. For most of Gorkhalis are average Nepalis - taxidrivers, shopkeepers, housewives, civil servents, legal or illegal workers, students are in abroad like in the United States of America who do not mind to take Nepali embassy fund to rally for king G from Washington to New York and Boston!!!

This is the fate of Nepal and Gorkhali and gorkhaliness will win the race. People who will stand for the human rights and fundamental freedom of people will have to struggle for not only decay but generation if such thinking survived among Nepalis who have transcended and liberated themselves from gorkhaliness.

There is no SHAME ON king G, RNA, Gorkhalis in the land of gorkhaliness.

Give him three years, after that you will have all answers of your queries. Think if country is going in right direction or not. So far 60 days was good and hope for good in coming days.

Its not just about Military Generals. They are well read, intellegent, have commanded battalion of thousand, experienced, disciplined, diplomatic, focused and know what leadership mean. Who else would be more capable of representing Nepal in the international world.....Girja's Chamchas (who lack personality and not even articulate)?
So to answer this question...YES.

However, the issue is to convience the international community that the King G is not militariling the state of Nepal, rather he is committed to DEMOCRACY (I put in democracy in capital because it means different to me from what King G think). To achieve this goal, he should trust civilians who would be helpful to communicate his vision (if he has some) to the world community. I am really surprised King G does not find anyone such civilian.

I don't see a reason why not....Military personnels are more more disciplined, have foreign relations knowledge and are able to articualte on our country's issues with much more indepth knowledge than our leaders who have yet to complete high school(grade 12).

It aint a joke to represent your nation in the international community. The kinds of ambassadors who can barely read off of the script has been nothing but emabarassing so far. Not to mention the former ambassador to the US, Murari Raj Sharma, who now works for UN due to the expereicnes he had as an ambassador of Nepal and all the oppurtunities he got from the government of Nepal, was recently caught protesting against the Nepal government in NY. It won't affect people liek Mr.Sharma if US stops military aid, or other countries put any kind of pressure and sanction on Nepal because he had already used Nepal's governments facilities to the fullest as he is enjoying UN salary in NY and probably has no plans to go back!! What a cheap person to be ever be "His Excellency" of my country!!

Atleast an army will never change his colors like this!! He will always remain true to Nepal, his government and will not naked his motherland in the streets of NY asking for sanction on Nepal caught on PICTURES and NEWS!!! Oppurtunists bastards must not ever represent our country.

Jai Nepal.....

As far as i believe, Nation should be represented by those who can feel for its people rather than who serves for oligarchy. Recent developments in our country clearly show where we are heading. Somemight say situtaion is better now than was before, but the truth is that we are in a condition where we dont really know whats goinig behnd the courtain. As media has been shadowed under the military forces and no voice can be raised against the so called perfect goverment for present nepal. In this present situation recommending former Generals as ambassadors will weaken the relaton of nepal in internationla community clearly revealing the gap between present goverment and Nepali people and Big G's lacking capbailities in finding intellectual people.
RNA has always been faithful to monarch and will continue to do so in coming days without even questioning if its right for the people and these recommended former army generals wiil present picture of nepal as what Big G wants to international community not the actual happenings.

It's not difficult to understand. In this time and situation, King seeks maximum loyalty from RNA. By giving Ambassadorial portofolio to Generals, he is sending message to current Generals that their loyalty will be rewarded if they continue supporting and maintaining the the power of King and the current system.

StandforyourRight:

I understand Panchayat was not the best. So what the fock we got from Girja Chor & Co? Did you standupforyourright? Or were you just a spectator while it gave a birth to Mao Problem, Bhutanese problem and the death of 11,000 brothers & sisters.

Democracy is more than a free election and freedom of speech. It demands responsibility. Bottom line is people should see peace and prosperity. I dont think I will ever get that as long as people like you cannot standforyourright and take the responsibility.

Tathastu. King G will deliver all this with the wave of his magic. Every one will begin to SEE peace and prosperity.

I don't understand why a military personnel cannot make a good ambassador. In fact most of the former Chiefs of Army Staffs in Nepal's military history have served as ambassador after their miltary tenures were over.

There is nothing new about Military or Police personnal being appointed as Ambassadors. Even USA also practices that. There is no question about leadreship of this Military Generals. Once u join military as OFFICER its not all about physical training or about combat tactics. You are required to take classes of poltical science, socialogy, International relationship etc. etc. The only thing i doubt about is how good RNA's Military Staff College is? RNA's Military Staff college is fairly new so i doubt how many of those Generals have attended it. Having said all this the bottom line is appointment of too many Generals as Ambassadors do raise question regarding all the happening going in Nepal.

Some of them are appointed as an ambassaor to Burma, a country ruled by military and less important in bilateral relations.

Thapa ji, the issue here is not about the leadership capability of military generals. USA appoints military general as an ambassador and even foreign minister becuase USA has institutional check and balance. Military is completely under government control, a government elected by the people. Since, there is no mechanism to control military in nepal (we never had it), these generals cannot represent a nation state in international community on behalf of and on the best interest of people. They would seek to promote interest of RNA (looking for military aid rather than developmental aid) which might plung country into devastation and supression.

Hancy guy ur reaction to my posting shows
AADHAA ADHUROO, LOOLO LANGADO
Have given time and thought b4 posting ur opinion what i have said. I have said there the practice of appointment of Generals and Police personnal is not uncommon but the timing of their appointment is something fishy. I have raise their about their ability too saying that as for RNA's History to my knowledge they didn't have Military Staff college before 90's and how prepare are these ambassador appointed Generals are? If i am true than none of these Generals have set a foot in Staff college except of some going for Shandhurts training or attending IMA in deharadun.
