Hi
How much cash is allowed to take when going to Nepal ? Is there any restriction on it ? Do they allow around 2000-3000 $ cash ?

By law, you can take upto $2000. Anything over $2000, you have to declare at the custom. chao.

Not Really,
I once took 10000 without a problem. Try taking you last year tax return in case they make inquiry. You wont have problem if you have tax returns,

Thanks.

instead of carryiing cash, you can use one of the online money transfer services and collect the money when you reach nepal. just make sure the money is loaded in the system before you depart from US. Its lot safe.

demorest,

I'm pretty sure that the reason why sangfroid is sharing his query is because he doesn't wanna pay an unnecessary "fee" while transferring his money online.

Lloong time ago I brought about 17K ( helped every one)  but the wallet was too big.

Situation is different, too much cash may make you suspcious and ask for proof of income ( there can be any reason to hassel you here in exit as well in Nepal, You may be able to satisfy exit one but once you get envolve in Nepal may be a bigger hassel). We need to learn lesson " do not take risk for nothing ". suggest not to to exceed over 10000.

Well, Quagmire, its the risk you take carrying cash vs paying some "unnecesary" fee. The choice is yours.

Last month I took 9500 cash and nobody even asked me. Considering situation in Nepal it is kind of risk to carry cash but the benefit is that you get good exchange if you take it to "private money exchange" around Durbar Square area ;)

Usually they give you 2Rs more /$ than NRB rate. They will happly exchange it without even asking for your passport. Make sure you take all 100's.

You are allowed to take $ 10000.More than that if you are stoped by TSA you have to show tax proof.I had been twice in Nepal ,both time I had10000 cash.
