Hello everyone,

I am planning to apply my green card through my employer this month. I submitted all the required documents early this year and they asked me to provide 2 years of experience letter ( 1 year each with my previous employer) which I did. I don't know why they need my experience letter, will it help in any way...what would have happened if I didn't have previous experience and this was my first job?

Also, how long will it take for me to get the green card? 5 years? I heard that after the labor is approved, I can submit the two application (don't know what they are) simultaneously...so that the process is fast...Only Indians and Chinese could not file simultaneously but others can. These are the information I am hearing from everyone I talk around.

no experience is needed, but if ur employer asks for it, then u can't say no n u had it luckily.
when u file labor, ur priority date wil be say Jun- Aug 2011. rite now for EB3, USCIS is processing the ones with priority date Aug 2005. unless the backlog goes down, USCIS will process ur i485 only 5-6 years later.

Applying i-140/i-485 concurrently does not mean ur application will be processed. So if the backlog remains the same for couple of years more, then u r right, 5-6 years to get GC.

It will at least take 6 yrs if the current scenario doesn't change for eb3. Right now they are processing 2005 august, that is the priority date for eb3_ROW. That means they are assigning visa numbers to people whose labor was approved in august 2005, now you can do the math.
As per 2 yrs experience, if your job doesn't requie at least bachelors, this is the difference between eb3 and eb3 others. You can check visa bulletin for current priority dates on each category.
For simultaneous filing priority dates need to be current and it is current for eb2 not eb3. Eb3 can not simultaneously file I140 and I 485. My advice is if its even remotely possible try to do eb2, eb3 makes you stuck with uncertainity.

I endorse both of the responses above.
I also agree that you should try completing Masters and filing for EB2 if your employer can create a position that can sponsor EB2. With EB3 you are stuck for 5-6 years and trust me you will be kicking yourself in 2-3 years for not planning for EB2.
So, plan of action: continue with your EB3 and plan for masters (also make sure with your HR that they can sponsor for EB2).
