Just some quick thoughts.
Elusivecat-jyu,
Republic is a national resolve already. Pro-republic leaders or not, it will be there. So I would emphasize in other criteria (diverse representation, individual and collective competence and so on) than a single pro-republic criterion.
*** *** *** *** *** *** *** ***
Pyari_kt-jyu,
If you are wishing for the Maoist to lose the election absolutely, it is already too late.
What I am getting from Nepal tells me that a significant fraction of the nationwide votes is going to the Maoists.
So the question left is this: what do you say to those who shall be voting for the Maoists ? Stupid ? I don’t think you can.
And one remark on your note. Why are you using the word “rape†so liberally and so blatantly ? Can you not use less graphic words like “sexual abuse†?
Then, I think you are FACTUALLY WRONG about your claim regarding Maoist in this particular kind of abuse. Can you produce any report/data to support your claim ? Any particular news, report ?
The fact is, for ideological reason (use/abuse of sex for any purpose is too bourgeois for communists), Maoists are less likely to commit sexual abuse than, let’s say, the security forces would. And all the reports I have read so far support this.
However, your claim and assumption is quite opposite.
Hence my curiosity about your claim.

Nepe here is an answer to your query. And if you want more proof, listen to BBC Nepali sewa news on April 7th. How Maoist's new slogan in Nepal is, "Hami lai vote nadiye, tauko jhola ma, jiu khola ma".
â€For those who believe, an explanation is unnecessary. For those, who don´t believe, an explanation is impossible.†- St. Bernadette of Lourdes

Nepe ji,
I think Deshbhaktanepali has answered your question quite clearly...I do agree that I can use the term sex abuse rather than saying rape....but I can't do that...I know they have raped a woman in front of the husband, they have amputated a tacher and tied in a tree and many terrorist act...the thing is that I don want to take the name of the people who have been raped...This is more unhuman to take their name in this public sites...but I agree to you and I also have heard that a significant fraction of votes is going for Maoists but still its my ideology and I still request everyone:
DO NOT VOTE MAOISTS SINCE THEY ARE TERRORISTS..............
Thanks Nepe ji...

Deshbhakta,
My query was about the sexual abuse which Pyari_kt has answered.
*** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** ***
Pyari_kt-jyu,
You are right. It would be inappropriate to write the name of the victims. I was not asking that. I was asking about the specific case that you have heard/read. Where and when did they happen or did you read in any particular report ? That was my question.
Based on my own readings (of various reports of HR organizations), sexual abuse is the least used form of abuse by the Maoist. On the other hand, security forces have deliberately used sexual abuse to women as a weapon of war.
This is very difficult topic. But I am interested to learn the facts. Kura teeti ho.

Hurray,
I am no supporter of any party, not yet. I am a supporter of a democratic, republic, inclusive, self-confident, optimistic, daring to dream Nepal and I appreciate the contribution made by any party. That’s all.
In my judgment, Maoist has made a huge contribution, not necessarily by design though; a lot of positive contribution could be viewed as a by-product, ripple effect, or a tactical product. However, Maoist is yet to become a responsible and credible political party. It’s not that others political parties are good. But they are more credible than how much Maoist party is NOW. That's what I think.
So, all in all, Maoist is what I have been calling it, “a mixed bagâ€.
If you are following me, I have described the three political parties as follows;
Maoist: a mixed bag
NC: an empty bag
UML: without a bag
NC does not have anything other than the empty bag itself to offer to us . However, the bag is a valuable asset of NC. In fact, the credibility of NC (as a political party, not as a good political party, okay) is what that empty bag essentially is.
Then the bag-less UML has, ummm.., the “flexibility†to offer to us. It has it’s golden “nine months†and plastic nine years for us to find it some kind of a credible creature.
In summary, all parties have both strengths and weaknesses for me/us to consider. So, if you curious about my virtual vote in this election, I am splitting it equally for all three parties, NC, UML and the Maoist.
That probably makes me 1/3 supporter of the Maoist.

I heard this from my dad long time ago. In rural areas (which is more than 70% of nepal), if you give a poor family a 100 Rs note, they will do kind of anything for it. It might sound funny to some of you, but many people in the country side may not even know the meaning of VOTING. and you may ask why? COZ nothing has really changed in their eyes for as long as they've lived, so they dont really care about whom they are voting, why they are voting and what usually happen after you vote(since things are CONSTANT all the time). I am mostly talking about places where you have no roads, no transportation, no electricity (its been like that for 100's of years and just may continue...for another century..) i personally hope not..

NC - party of Very Very Bad Ideas
Moist - haven't had a chance to see how bad they could be....
UML - party of No Ideas.
So everytime a new law or new program has to be launched by the Parliament of Nepal, this is how the conversation goes inside the parliament.
one NC parliament candidate stands up and says, " YOU KNOW, I HAVE a VERY BAD IDEA". and then
another UML parliament candidate stands up and says, " I CAN MAKE THE IDEA EVEN SHITTIER".
this is how they pass new programs and ideas in our parliament..

Nepe, the second part of your statement "In my judgment, Maoist has made a huge contribution, not necessarily by design though; a lot of positive contribution could be viewed as a by-product, ripple effect, or a tactical product," is absolutely right. But let's not give more credit to Maoists than they deserve. Yes their movement brought some awarness, but it was and is the desire of rest of nepalese people for a real change, the zeal that is there now, like we have never seen before. In other words, let's give more credit to those factor that kept "ripple effect" going, when Maoists after giving a shake to the bucket moved to more inhuman and disastrous acts, which are no less than crimes.
One shouldn't use the acts of army personals, to justify Maoists' acts. A crime is a crime. And while today most of the army personals are not in active duty committing crimes, maoists are openly and proudly.

Hurray,
>But let's not give more credit to Maoists than they deserve.
Absolutely.
But what you wrote should also mean,
“Let's not give less credit to Maoists than they deserve.â€
Right ?
Now the question is, how to determine how much credit Maoists should get ? Or who is to determine that, to begin with ?
That brings us to the election of CA.
Needless to say, the voters are going to tell us what they collectively think about the Maoist. And we the voters or non-voters individuals, no matter how much more intelligent we might be than an average voter, must accept and respect that verdict in every sense and purpose. Hoina ta ?
So the moment of truth is coming.
That said, I agree with you that crime is crime. One’s crime does not justify or clear other’s crime. And I would add that the issue of the human right abuses by Maoist and the state has not been touched yet (both as a popular agenda as well as the agenda of the peace process). We should not be frustrated about that yet. It will be addressed and dealt. Everywhere it is a standard procedure to deal the most difficult issue at last during the peace process. The same is happening with us. So the moment of justice will come.
A lot of us, particularly Sajha posters, argue that Maoists must not be allowed in the power not to let them suppress or influence the issue of abuses whenever it is going to be raised.
I think on the contrary.
I think it will be more helpful to keep the Maoist bound with political and legal obligation of justice than, let’s say, let them roam outside (they might run away and disappear) of power when it come to the process of delivering justice.
So, we should not think otherwise when Maoist or whoever must represent the HR abuse of the state comes to share the power.
The moment of justice is yet to come and it shall come no matter what.
In other countries, passage of 20-30 years since the abuse took place too has not prevented the victims to bring the culprits to justice. Why should we lose the hope ?
