I dont know if I am doing well financially, its kinda worrying me. Time is tough and I have hard time saving any money in my bank account. After I pay my rent, student loan, car payment, cable, food, clothing expense etc etc , I have nothing left in my account, nada, zero. I am curious how much u guys save every month, sorry if i sound lil bit nosy:)

I am trying to build a saving habit, ill start with 10 percent of my net income, may be cut down on expenses, like eating out less and more cooking(its going to be hard), taking bus or subway to work( gasoline price in europe sucks, we pay twice as much here). I do not intend to share my room with roommates though since I have a history of fighting with them. Hopefully, my plan will work out,target2green 1720 bucks a month means a lot esp for a poor girl like me heheheh.

we spend more when we make more. so i had to force myself to save when i had a job (once upon a time).
created a new bank account, 20% salary direct deposit for that account and the rest to my checking account. I didnt carry the check card for my savings account.. try not to use the same bank for checking and saving cuz you can easily transfer money online. so, you kind'a get into the habit of budgeting around however much you have in your checking account. thats how i saved money and paid off the rest of my school bill.

this is an extreme measure for people like me who aren't all that with their finances. but the good thing was that after a few months i stopped checking my savings account and when i finally checked it, i was pretty happy. and then i had to hand it over to the school.

Teena,

If you have 401K at work, it would behoove you to max it out every year.  That's automatic savings for you.  Plus, you get an excellent return just by the mere fact that whatever you put in there will be tax free.  If you do not have 401K, considere opening an IRA account.  This could be your first step towards saving.
