Just got this news forwarded to me and am sad for this brilliant kid who was among the smartest Himalayan kids I'd known here. What a waste of potential...Can only hope that he comes out stronger after this ordeal: Yeah, what he did was the stupidest thing he ever could have but the kid just turned 21 and it saddens me that someone with so much left to achieve being brought down thi way. BTW, If you're gonna cuss at him, pls refrain as this thread is here to provide the kid the support we can give him from sajha (I'll ask him to check it). FYI, I'm gonna go ballistic deleting posts which do not adhere to my beliefs (Fug free speech if its aimed at bringing the already down, lower). http://www.newsday.com/news/local/wire/newyork/ny-bc-ny--hit-run1001oct01,0,2964262.story
$75,000 bail for man accused of fatal DWI hit-run
NEW YORK (AP) _ A judge set bail Monday at $75,000, more than the prosecutor requested, for a college student accused of a drunken hit-and-run incident that killed a young woman who had moved to New York from Scotland.
Tenzing Bhutia, 21, who was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court, is accused of mowing down Julia M. Thomson, 24, as she crossed a street near her Lower East Side apartment early Sunday.
A felony court complaint charges Bhutia with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident involving a death, and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
Bhutia's blood alcohol level was 0.087 percent, a fraction over the 0.08 percent upper limit, according to the complaint.
The complaint said Bhutia told police that he knew that he hit something and did not stop.
A witness said that a black Mercedes side mirror was next to Thomson, an Edinburgh native, as she lay on the street bleeding.
About 3{ hours later, police found a damaged black Mercedes in Forest Hills, Queens. The auto, registered to Bhutia's father, was missing a passenger side mirror, had a smashed passenger side windshield and a dented front fender, the complaint said.
The defendant's father, Temdy Bhutia, told police his son had driven the car early Sunday, the complaint said.
Judge Tanya Kennedy set Bhutia's bail at $75,000 _ $25,000 more than Assistant District Attorney Dafna Yoran had asked for, and ordered Bhutia to surrender his passport.
Palermo said he expected his client, who entered no plea during the arraignment, to post bail.
Bhutia is a senior at Baruch College, where he is majoring in finance, and is an information technology employee at a New York City company, according to his lawyer, Edward Palermo.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 5.

My condolence to the family of the deceased girl. May her soul rest in peace. She didn't deserve to be killed by a drunk driver. No one does! Why should I extol his brilliancy and 'perfect-ness' if he doesn't have respect for other people's lives? Others, less brilliant ones and less-perfect ones, have as much right to live as much as the brilliant ones do.

Samsara bro, your post is so biased towards the Tibetan Dude. You should have shown some respect for the victim girl and her family back home. I can bet 99% of the Tibetans don't even consider them Nepali even though they own Nepalese passport, let go those who have Indian passports. Anyways, it's not about where the rich guy's from. The way you potrayed him as "BRILLIANT" is really back firing you. I don't feel sorry for the rich Tibetan kid. Instead, I feel sad for the girl who as killed. We support "Our Himalayan Kid" only if he is doing the right thing. Hitting and running away leaving the victim to die is not RIGHT.

This is very unfortunate. It's not a good thing that an innocent girl lost her life, and it's not a good thing that because of one mistake Tenzings whole life is now messed up. I am not sure how the legal systems weighs in intentional murder to accidental killing. I am sure there are grounds for leniency if it's the guy's first crime or has a clean record with the police. Everyone drives under the influence once in a while and we don't want to be excessively hypocritical about condemning all drunk drivers to hell for all eternity. Chances are your immediate family does it occassionally, your friends and even you probably have done it sometimes. It's not a big deal until something bad happens like in Tenzings case. Anyone who's driven drunk are all potential killers so would it make sense for everyone to surrender to the police? NO. And the reason is because alcohol affects everyone differently. Some get highly agitated and wreckless while some get calm and sleepy. The point is if alcohol increases your agitation level and you have been told this by your friends or you realize it yourself, then for you driving drunk is a crime because you lose your cool when you are drunk. There are some who can drink a few beer and still have a good composure. These I think are less accident prone than the ones who get hyperactive with alcohol. Lesson from this incident is that you should not drive drunk - which everyone knows already. But because of circumstances beyond ones control, sometimes it so happens that you are presented with a circumstance whereby you are presented with the ability to drink and drive. You have to make a choice. Perhaps nothing will happen for 20 such episodes. In the 21st instance, lets say you hit a pedestrian who was not following the law and walking haphazardly in drunk condition. In this case, if you were sober, then it would be the pedestrians fault. But if you are drunk, then you are at fault and can be prosecuted for murder. So friends drink wisely, and use common sense before driving.

TO all the azzholes who said I had no respect for the deceased lady...WTF?? Where do I say that?? All I'm saying here is that I am sorry that the guy in question has ended up the way he has (all that potential down the drain). Thats what this whole post is about. Yeah, I have greived my condolonces for the girl in a separate blog but c'mon to portray that I had no feelings for the deceased is complete bull. Where does that even come from. This is a Nepali website and I gave my 2 cents for our Nep speaking Himalyan kid here. Would it even have made it here if 2 whites were involved, instead? Surely not!! BTW, the kid is not rich as commentator said...This kid worked his way to that status (his family gave him nothing!!). And yeah, MOTHFUGGER VINCENTBODEGA, you're gonna run me ova?? Come hither jackazz and see how I'll fuggin flatten your skull. Where do we get these wannabe e-tough azzhols from...If you wanna talk shit, back it up. I seriously am dying to meet up with you and smash your skull inside out. Now this "I dare you" instead shit-head!!

May the deceased soul rest in peace!! I remember somewhere in sajha thread, not sure though, this samsara thing mentioned that he is the Phd student which I really doubt as per the languages he uses in this open foums. Samsara, if you are phd student all I want to say is assholes are assholes no matter how educated they are. You are the proof.

Pheri yaha "ta bhanda ma bhaley" suru bhayo. Hoina Bro haru, yo thread ma ta hami tyo "Himalayan Kid" ko potential ani usko euta mistake jasle garda hami jastai euta student mariye ko barey ma po kura gari raha ko hoina bhanya? Aba kaha bata ek arka lai car le kichaune ani tauko tukra tukra parne kura aayo? Hey bhagwaan, buddhi deu prabhu. Samsara bro and Bodega bro, ke bacha haru jasto sajha ma challenge garera bhaley bhai raha ko bhanya. Baru discussion tirai kura modey hundaina? Aba Samsara bro le bhaney jastai "his parents didn't give him shit" bhako bhaye aafno bau ko Mercedez kina chadera hideko hola kunni hamro "Himalayan bro" le? Tes maathi tannai dhokera? I agree that the kid must be hard working and determined to achieve so much in such a young age, BUT shouldn't all that hard working he did and the knowledge he got from his education make him BRILLIANT enough to do some moral judgment. Unfortunately, his moral judgment was washed away by the amount of drink he had that night. He didn't even bothered to help the victim (that's the saddest part).

Hence, he deserves the punishment. That punishment will be the example for others who drink and drive.

A/X azzhole listen fugger, Ph.d hare?? Listen fugger, in this forum I could be your dad or the Prez of the United States...Would you still believe anything anyone would say, arsehole?? Damn, talk about being naive, you take the whole damn cake!! BTW, you use a name such as A/X, but in real life you're probably wearing only Old Navy stuff. WTF?? And palu-bhalu, why don't you see the comment I gave the sissy-bigtalk, VincentBodega and see if you step up, dung breath!! Where do these wannabe males with puzzies come from?? Read my above lines: I condone the guy running over the lady (who was beautiful as someone pointed out) and he deserves the HARSHEST punishment there is..I've never ever doubted that (point where I ask for his release in this thread, jackazzes?) but atleast lets refrain from name-calling as the kid has surely going through a lot by now. I'm still praying he gets out of this ordeal a much stronger person. Things will change for sure...Lets hope for the better!!

It is really sad to see what irresponsible drinking can do. This incident not only destroyed the life of the young girl and the driver, but also the families of both party. May the departed soul rest in peace. May the families have enough courage and support to get through this unexpected tough time. All we can do now is hope and pray for them. But this incident should also be an eye-opener for each one of us.
