Bbc is portraying our loved MOMO as Chinese food which is very demeaning and offensive to all the Nepalese all over. They should fix it. I say boycott bbc.

No sarcasm intended!

They call it dumplings... Pretty similar to momo but different taste due to idifference in ingredients used.  I am sure Nepalese didn't come up with the recipe (don't think our ancestors ate momos). So chill out.

Besides, even if it was a pure Nepali food, who care if someone says it is chinese. Some of you here in Sajha really need to grow up.

Boycot bbc, my ass.

While we're at it, what about rice? It's Nepali food, too.

nice, Mexican beer, Chinese made paper plates and forks, US raised chicken or pork, but the momo is definitely Nepali. they must be playing some Hindi music in the back and their women must be cooking some more Nepalis momos in the kitchen using hindi spices they picked up from indian grocery store, wearing sarees made in India, while our Nepali friends are having good ol' Nepali tyme. so is the culture of Nepal.

According to Wikipedia Momo (Nepali: मम:; Nepal Bhasa: ममचा, म:म:; Tibetan: མོག་མོག་Wylie: mog mog; simplified Chinese: 馍馍; traditional Chinese: 饃饃; pinyin: mómo[2]) is a type of dumpling native to Nepal; also popular in bordering region of Tibet, Bhutan, and Northeast India . It is similar to the Chinese Baozi and Jiaozi, the Mongolian Buuz, the Japanese Gyoza or the Korean Mandu.

This origin and etymology of momo in Nepal is uncertain, but the dish is thought to be rustic in origin. Since this dish is popular among the Newar community of Kathmandu valley, one prevalent belief is that Newari traders brought momo techniques from Lhasa, Tibet. They modified the seasonings of the dish with available ingredients, using water buffalo meat, and gave the dish a Nepali name. Others believe the dish was introduced to Nepalese cuisine by Tibetans who migrated to live in the Himalaya region of Nepal. Whatever its origins, the momo has since evolved to suit the Nepali palate.

Correct, by the way MOMO wrappers are also bought from Chinese store (so called gyoza/wonton wrapper). Our food is dominant of Chinese and Indian food.
By the way what is American food ~ pizza, pasta, ravioli, Mac & Cheese, fries (french fries), tortilla, jambalaya ? Aren't those all food recipe brought from different countries like Italy, France, Mexico?

Just by putting different spicy stuffs into wrapper doesn't maker you own food. Just accept it sincerely and don't be greedy. Chinese invented dumpling and mo:mo is nothing but Version 2.0 of dumpling. Version 1.0 still belongs to China.

What a coincidence, i was thinking about the same topic from different angle. I tried chinese dumpling called "xiao long bao" yesterday, which change my perception about momo. These dumplings are so much better than momo, full of juice that once u try it u will never go back to momo. Must try it, if u r a momo lover like me.

Just like momos are intended to be. Seriously guys give it a try.

This calls for a facebook campaign. Momo was eaten by Buddha both of whom were born in Nepal.
