Hi EightOtwo, I hope you are fine this evening and spirits high! It's a tough question to answer without knowing a person, at least that's how I feel. However, I can simply share what I used to do when I was going through that phase some long time ago - I was mostly alone, life was tough. Not sure where you live? Not important either. I know you can do it! Getting back on the track, I started going to Barnes & Noble almost every day after work. Slowly, I started making friends with lovely people that worked at the cafeteria. I memorized all their names and they always remember to get my tea (blackberry sage - they don't carry it anymore) ready as soon as they see me walk in the store. It is important to ask and remember names - don't you agree? You stand out in the line when you ask/greet someone with their first name. Not to mention the smiles I was getting and all the good books I was able to read for free for hours and hours. The point I am trying to make here is that, with just a minor adjustment in my daily life, I was able to get pass being lonely. 'Forlorn' is a slightly heavy word to use though - I think! Now, I have branched out. I still go to Barnes & Noble at a different location only because I have moved since then. Nowadays, I am more into taking pictures. I hike/walk and believe it or not, have started going to gym for the very first time in my life. Did I mention, driving around for hours? Listening to my fav. music - Man, I get such a natural high. Feels good! I hope you will read this with an open mind. Go out there and do something nice for you - just for yourself! Life is beautiful. Best wishes and lots of success in your life. Peace Out!!!!

I would rather say have sex or if you dont have any partner, then masturbate... Sex is the best solution to drive away loneliness....

Eight0Two - I am not sure if there is a magic pill that will work for everyone but like some of the others have suggested, trying out something new, like a new hobby or travelling can help. I guess loneliness has more to do with what's happening in our minds rather than just the absense of physical bodies to give us company. The classic distinction between aloness and lonliness where you can be alone and not be lonely comes to mind. Self-pity under any conditions is detrimental - but especially so when you are alone. Hence, the need for hobbies and new things to do - such activities tend to boost your self confidence and make you feel better about yourself leaving little room for self pity. The key to being alone without being lonely is to have things to keep your mind occupied. I set small goals for myself - like running an 200 metres - and get great pleasure when I can beat such a goal. Just one example. But again that's just one person's opinion. Best wishes. :)

Yeah, if u live around DC, it is really fun to be outthere; Cherry Blossom Season. When I am bored, I read, listen to the fav music and go for long drive or temple if there are nearby and biking too. Life is beatiful, we all should enjoy if possible. THANKS.

I have never thought that loneliness can be very danger until the V. Tech shooting. That guy was lonely. All above suggestions are great and try something today. I will suggest spend your time doing whatever you like than just to feel lonely. WHen I am lonely I go and take a good bubble bath with lots of candles and music it makes me feel good and after than I might spend my time going to the mall or even wal-mart and just walk around. You can do simple thing but do not be lonely. You can read some thing or take your photos and start looking your loved ones if you do not want ot go out.
