FOSS Nepal Community has been declared one of the three winners of Software Freedom Day 2007 Best Event Competition. The other winners are SFD Nicaragua 2007 Team and Beijing Software Freedom Day (China). The competition was organized by Software Freedom International, a non-profit organization which coordinates the celebration of Software Freedom Day all around the world.

Software Freedom Day is a global, grassroots effort to educate the public about the importance of software freedom and the virtues and availability of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). This year, the event was celebrated on September 15th all over the world. In Nepal, the celebration was jointly organized by FOSS Nepal Community and High Level Commission for Information Technology (HLCIT) for the third successive year with several events including distribution of FOSS, social events, talks, college visits, distro demos, Freedom Toster, FOSS Solidarity Eve, Signature campaign, documentary shows, media awareness program, etc. This year's event was marked with the slogan 'Linux for Desktops, Let's make iT FOSSible!' Over 850 people had attended with an organising team of more than 70 volunteers.

FOSS Nepal Community is a team of volunteers who believe in the usage of FOSS. The primary objective of the community is to promote and diversify the usage of FOSS in Nepal. The community has been organizing a series of awareness programs, orientations, talk programs, discussion programs, install-fests, initiating local communities in colleges, etc. for the past three years.

We would like to congratulate everyone involved in the celebration of the event and thank our supporters and media for their co-operation in making the event a huge success!
