Lot of ma frens attending community colleges are advocating the fact ,any F-1 student after getting associate degree from a community college get 1 yr of OPT which doesnot affect anything in future(i mean later when u for OPT after ur degree).....is this true?They were also sharing their plan to attend a good university after collecting some money working 1 yr and so forth......to the best of ma knowledge the job should be realted to ur academics and now, its so difficult to get a job for a college grad and their plan of working after gettin associate degree doesnot look plausible......is that possible guys?

     I was just curious to know if the way they were taking for granted is really gonna work?it would be better if it works....coz many nepali students can pursue their career in the field of their interest....but we should also know the truth and the truth is always inevitable....so if we spread the reality,i think it will be a great assitance to many students who work so hard to get a degree..

hey am also in the same situation.. i am paknning to get the OPT after my associate.. i don't know whether we will ge tthe job after that... but if you have the previous job then better stick with that.. i would be sticking with the same job.. alikati bhaye pani paisa jamma garau yaar for the university

As far as I know you can enjoy 1 year of  OPT after completion each level of your education i.e. you will get 1 year OPT after completing Associate degree, 1 year after Bachelor's degree and so on. If you decide to have 2 Bachelor's Degrees still you are entitled to get only 1 year of OPT. I guess it will help. If you are planning to proceed your immigration journey( working visa, green  card) with associate degree, it might not work well. Please always consult with immigration lawyers or visit official sites to make your decision. I am giving this info on the basis of what I have heard...

if the question is about whether you can get OPT after associates degree or not?..you certainly can because I am in OPT now with my associates degree last year.

about whether you can get job or not? i think is totally dependent on what major you graduated from...as for me i graduated with degree in Radiology Technology, so I already had job offer even before i applied for the OPT

and it tun out to be a very intelligent decision i made because now i have saved enough money and got enough time to be accepted by better medical school for my bachelors degree in Radiation Therapy

and the experience i got at work during this time was life changing

so, working in OPT after getting associates degree worked for me

   thats good for u but i don't think thats gonna work for everbody....look,in 2 yrs actually how much stuff do u learn in ur field.More than half of the credits will be in core..english,math,history,philosophy,psychology and stuffs like that...our ultimate aim is not to work after getting a associate degree but wat we want is to earn some  money after associate degree if possible and go on our respective field of interest.
