It's good to have the option to chat live with other Sajha members. Sajha Shout Box certainly seems like something designed to cater that need of Sajha surfers/members. Since it's embedded in the main-page itself, I assume it's mainly (and only) for those people who surf Sajha. Since a majority of us are already anonymous once we choose different aliases to register as a member, I don't think we need to have the leverage to pick another alias to chat through the shout box. Meaning, the nick we already have will serve both purposes in my opinion.

It seems a trivial thing to even discuss or argue on this, but I witnessed (as the box is in the main page) that some of the unknown "smarties" were using nicks of people who post regularly in Kurakani and trying to degenerate them by stalking and talking what to me is utter rubbish with other chat members. If I or people whose nicks being used there were casual posters who post once in a while, it wouldn't have been a big issue but some of us are regulars and NOT totally anonymous and it's like our own names are being plagiarized and traded for some cheesy show by some miscreants.

This has to be completely stopped!

The solution to this, as I already mentioned, is to make people  use their own nick(s) that they use in Kurakani to chat via shout box. I don't think anyone should have any problem with this as shout box is Sajha's own dimension.

I was thinking I should email you this but then I realized it's also something which should be brought to the attention of those miscreants.

I donn think sajha outbox is worthwhile.We got enough discussions threads and if sb thinks that is not enough,he/she may create any number of threads.That would just oozes nonsense,stupid thoughts on people's mind and will keep discussing......Couple of minute ago i was keeping an eye some people with nickname baburam,prachandra,YCL were just talking nonsense on how to make new nepal...... so san bro,don't make sajha a dumpster

I too agree...infact, you can make it to appear only when people sign in in sajha....and they can talk only with their nickname......however in the mantime, I'm enjoying taking others nick but only they are chatting there....just for fun purpose....

I have personally witnessed some people using some well known nicks of our regular commentator. Which is very bad.

So this should be either stopped or controlled.

I thought of having a shoutbox in order to make it easy for users to interact in sajha without having to register, log in and post. Well that was the initial thought anyways. It was fun to create this shoutbox in my free time and it is good to see it working! Working, but obviously with the concerns that you and others have pointed out. As we have known and learned in the past, and as we can observe in the present by the abuse of shoutbox in degenerating users of kurakani by falsely using their names, it may be a good idea to allow only the registerd members to chat there.

Hmm I just thought of something as I was writing. How about identifying the real sajha registered user by color? - and having a lil disclaimer there about users in black are not the actual registered users of sajha? What do you think?

I like the idea of different color for registered and random users but what about those who are color-blind? They would still think Prachanda is online. HAHAHA...jk. Well, it certainly sounds like a good idea which would allow everyone (registered or otherwise) to participate in chatting (if they want to).

Just curious though and I guess you know it better but wouldn't the idea of making people who wanna chat to register first help in expanding this site as more people will register? More the merrier? I am not into chatting so I might not know but as per my limited understanding, most of those genuine chat sites allow only registered users to chat and use their complete features. I might be completely wrong but you may wanna give it a second thought.

I second the motion. Some of the impersonation can get quite comical at times but beyond a certain point it gets to be  annoying and dishonest.

The "Shout Box" is definitely another piece of enhancement as Sajha evolves into a better and more useful portal. Your intention of enabling Sajhaites to interact with each other at fingers- tips is well-received by me. However, the concern, that Loote has raised, is a clear and present one.

I too noticed yesterday that someone was logged in as "San". First he/she sounded like a normal chatter then all of sudden went crazy with F-this and F-that. He/she was giving you a bad name in that respect.
1) To avoid similar abuses, I would suggest disabling people from using existing login names. For example no one should be allowed to use "San", "mR. hydE" etc in the Shout Box since these are registered ids even themselves.

2) If we could think of a more well-rounded naming for this new functionality currently named as "Shout Box", that would be better I think; 'sounds like the utility is meant just for yelling at each other and people might just to do that for the sake of the shouting. May be Instant Messaging, IM or something around these names could be used.

3) Adding a link to a clearly-visible disclaimer, which discourages people against using private information like credit card information, social security, DOB, domicile etc (just like the good ol' MSN messenger does), might be in Sajha's interest.

My three cents (do not worry about the interest I will be losing on them).

Hey all thanks for all your feedback. As with most of the things in sajha, they have evolved into something better than what I had expected because of excellent feedback from users like yourselves. It was few very simple things that I had to do to make it possible.

Also this reminds me of the cool nepali chatroom which existed in 1997-1998.

I disagree, chat is one good facility and everyone should understand that in this chat system nick of the forum user can be used. Someone relating the identity of forum with the identoty of chat is kinda retarded.

Furthermore I care little about whats going on with my name. This is a virtual reality. Trying to put intense importance to personalities made in some place like sajha is totally insane.

and it's not about personality, it's about 'ethics'. You want to mimic someone, fine, long as it's done in jest and good spirit..i was just pointing out the ill-motives of some of the people who do deliberate identity thefts--it's a first degree felony and understand that cyber laws are no different than laws of the real world :P

San bro, I too have major complaints on this.  Last nite there were 5 Samsaras and today just 10 minutes ago, there were 3 (there prolly is one there right now).  This is insane!!  For poeple who do not have a clue, they'd be under the impression that the "kalo" Samsaras (mero chahi rato) posting on the chat is me.  A certain kalo Samsara even bragged to me about how he talked to so many people who assumed it was me...Now that could be disastrous, ain't it? 

What my suggestion is, is that no outside user be allowed to use the name that are already registered in sajha.  This kalo and rato stuff just ain't doing it.  Thanks!!
