In response to http://www.nagariknews.com/politics/parliament/8247-2009-12-16-13-44-26.htmlPlz plz read the excerpt from the book from Fareed Zakaria. He have mentioned " Buddha was Indian, Buddhism was founded in India" 1) He didn't say Buddha was born in India. Did he? 2) He said he was Indian. There are thousands of Nepali who were born in Nepal and later called as Indian. 3) Buddhism was found in India. He is right. Buddha got enlightment under bodhi tree in Bodhgaya which is in india. Before that there was no Buddhism. 4) The whole area was known as "BharatBarsa" during that time. Prithivi Narayan Shah was only born in 1723 AD. Think yourself. Dont embarrass our Country. Do your Little history. We have the pride of having Buddha born in Modern Nepal dont make it as a shame now guys. And for Maoist politicians do your little history.

Eurofreak - If I may respond, 1) He didn't say Buddha was born in India. Did he? - Which part of "He was Indian" do you not get it? 2) He said he was Indian. There are thousands of Nepali who were born in Nepal and later called as Indian.- Are you serious? Besides, how many Nepalese do you know calling themselves Indian? Even if you do, how does that become acceptable ground to re-categorize Buddha's nationality? To my knowledge, whole Darjeeling besides Nepalese at many other places in India is dying to call themselves - Nepalese. Have you changed to "Indian"?3) Buddhism was found in India. He is right. Buddha got enlightment under bodhi tree in Bodhgaya which is in india. Before that there was no Buddhism. - True. However, based on that, Nepalese earning educational degree from around the world doesn't change their nationality, How is it different for Buddha? IF-You earned you degree in US, do you get US Passport?4) The whole area was known as "BharatBarsa" during that time. Prithivi Narayan Shah was only born in 1723 AD. Think yourself. Yep, I am thinking, Are YOU? As stated on the other thread, Agreed - There was neither India nor Nepal. Infact was called "Bharat-Varsha". However, his actual Birthplace is located at Present Nepal. So, why are you defending, while Buddha's birthplace was not India - neither THEN as you pointed, nor NOW. Come on! Agree?Dont embarrass our Country. Do your Little history. Yep, That would be nice thing to do for yourself. Good Luck! You can use google instead of Zakaria's Facebook to get more info, just FYI.We have the pride of having Buddha born in Modern Nepal dont make it as a shame now guys. And for Maoist politicians do your little history. You are right. Do not make it shame, you got it!balbahadur - Thanks! :-)
