Nepal's crown prince is a royal liability
--------------------
A tragic chain of tragic events made him the heir. Now many of his subjects want to ensure that he never sits on the throne.

KATMANDU, NEPAL — In this Himalayan nation, the man who would be king probably is the man who would be in jail if many of his subjects had their way.

The interesting thing is both Prince Paras and King Gyanendra have become liabilities for the institution of monarchy. The Hrideyandra option has been floating around for a while now - and is probably the only thing that can save the Monarchy - if it can be saved at all. The more time wasted with King Gyanendra on the throne, the stronger the chances of abolition in my opinion.

"That would be totally bad," said engineering student Arun Thapa, 19, grimacing at the prospect of a King Paras. "He's a very corrupt person. He's a vagabond, beating people up. He's misused his powers a lot."

The palace declined requests for an interview.

"How can a house without elders be run?" said Beti Maya Maharjan, 60, drawing on a common analogy to describe the king's paternalistic role.

Henry came up with a set of old stories and added a couple of comments from a 19 yr old and 60 year old--Old granny. This is an old India styled -masala added storey.

I rest my case.
