it is a shame that culture is being targeted. The right to practice culture is the right to live. When someone violates the culture it is a violation of the rightful living. The festivities are supported by their own guthis it is bull that Indra Jatra was not financed for mere fifteen thousand rupees.

I understand we need to preserve our culture and all that but right now our problem is poverty. Forget about hopspitals, schools, healthposts, etc etc, people in Nepal cant even afford to eat rice once a day. We are known for selling our daughters to brothels for money. And people of the mountains send their kids to India to be slaves to the Indians...and here we are spending millions of Rs on festivals. Hamro budhi kahiley auney hola.

Kumari newar ko matra hoina sara nepali ko ho.  Aru caste ko festival manauna sarkar le paisa dinchha ra?????    "Self Help is the Best help."     Kathmandu nepali sabaiko ho. 

Kumari newarko, Mount everest and all the himalayas sherpas ko,  Terai madhesiko, hills bahun and  Chhetriko,  kathmandu newarko,  Singha durbar Netako vanne ho vane get out of nepal. Our motherland Nepal dont need u bastards. Get the hell out of nepal.

You're worried about 50 millions. yes, we should not be wasting our money. But it is nothing relative to what is being wasted on so-called maoist revolutionary army. What do we get from all these money? How about all the destruction maoists did? Why do we need to waste so much money by having so many constituent members? There're zillions of other things that government is wasting on, and we don't see the wastage on other zillions of things, and we set the cultural stuffs at the top of priority to economize. yeah 50 million is a big budget....but that alone is not meant for Indra Jatra..

what is THIS govt going to do with the money of Indra Jatra ?? Are they

 

1 . going to build the bridges they collapsed ?

2. build the schools they destroyed ?

3. build barracks they had attacked ?

4.  reimburse the grieved ones whose family members they have killed ??

5.  buy weapons and bullets ?? or what else ?????

i wonder why some are glad to see the budget has been cancelled targetting some ethnic... we (newars) never did so when others were in trouble .... did we ever ??

50 million nepali when converted into UD dollars amount to 700K.  This is actually a very less amount if you compare it to the other countries. I wish if they would increase it to couple of million dollars per year. I don't think this amount of money is or will casue any problem.

freaking.. Nepal is very popular for all those festivals and those festivals let us know all around the world.. we just don't depend on the thanksgiving, christmas and halloween.. if you are the one who thinks the government is spending too much on the festivals.. go and dump yourself in the dumpster and adopt christianity.. where you have only one biggest festival Christmas which doesn't have any uniqueness...

The money spent on festivities directly benefits the local economy/communities. More money they spend on festivities the local communities will be better off.

If the government really want to boost the local economy they need to increase funding of these festivities not other way around.

It seems that decision to cut off funding of the festivities is political as maobadis want to move towards "communism"
